Infinity Nikki is great but flawed gamed

Infinity Nikki’s big Steam debut was supposed to be a victory lap. Instead, Infold Games faceplanted into a wall of player rage.

The 1.5 update, which added multiplayer and customization, introduced a mess of bugs, baffling story changes, and a monetisation scheme that players say is pure daylight robbery.

Infinity Nikki’s 1.5 update triggers player revolt

One Reddit user wrote: “Honestly 1.5 has been a hot mess. Lots of bugs on day one. I gave up trying to do the Sea of Stars side quest because the game was bugged as hell.”

Infold tried to patch things up with free in-game currency but botched that too. A bug handed out too much, and instead of owning the mistake, Infold clawed it back, even from players who’d already spent it, leaving some with negative balances.

Another user moaned that “Errors cannot be erased once they have occurred, but compensation is better than none.”

Steam reviews are flooded with one-star rants. One player fumed: “Your greed is sickening… Fixing bugs is one thing—but rebuilding trust is another.” Another added: “I would advise everyone to avoid this game because of the state that it’s in.”

The backlash has gone global

Chinese players are boycotting the game and flooding Steam forums with warnings like “Avoid Infinity Nikki! A rushed, greedy, and disappointing game!”

Infold’s response has been to censor the word “boycott” on official forums which has not been a good look. Players got around it by calling for a “girlcott” instead.

The update  gutted the game’s original intro, replacing it with a confusing new character and a multiverse plot that left players scratching their heads. “Ashamed to recommend it,” one fan said.

Why have the game devs dumped their game down the drain?

Infinity Nikki is such a beautiful game too…

The graphics are almost as beautiful as the clothes, but players would rather not waste money on a free game.

What is Infinity Nikki

Infinity Nikki is a free-to-play action adventure game from Infold Games. Although this Chinese developer isn’t exactly a household name worldwide, it has actually been making Nikki games for quite some time. Infinity Nikki is the fifth installment in the overarching Nikki franchise, and it’s the first to be released on modern consoles. Infinity Nikki boasts an open worldto explore, and it combines several gameplay mechanics, like puzzle-solving, platforming, and dress-up, to create a wholly unique experience.

One of the biggest gaming success stories of 2024, Infinity Nikki came out at the tail end of last year and was downloaded more than 20 million times across PS5, PC, and mobile devices in just a few days. These days, however, Infinity Nikki’s reception is a lot more mixed. Despite getting off to a relatively strong start, the game is now mired in controversy due to some recent changes made.
